My family and I attended the North Hudson Elementary Follies Friday evening, along with a sold-out crowd, at HHS. The school faculty and staff wrote and performed the show as a fundraiser for Smart boards, computer technology to be used in classrooms.

We were treated to a creative, energetic and hilarious production which we thoroughly enjoyed. Even though the teachers made it clear that they are not paid actors, this is a very talented bunch!

There were many great moments, but the highlight was a “visit” from Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus, aka Mr. Dolf Schmidt (as Miley) and Mrs. Peg Shoemaker as Billy Ray. For me, the best part of the evening was watching the teachers push themselves out of their personal comfort zones to perform on stage in front of their students and families. What a great example they were for the kids — this is what being a fantastic teacher is all about.

Last week’s performance reminded me how fortunate we are to have the caliber of teachers and staff we have at North Hudson Elementary. The community response and support was awesome too. The theme of the show was “We’re all in this together!” and that sentiment was truly felt.

What a great evening. We haven’t laughed that hard in a long time!
