The St. Croix County Historical Society is hosting its fifth annual Volunteer Appreciation Tea for all past, current and potential volunteers. The tea is in the River Room of The Phipps Center for the Arts Tuesday, April 29, at 1 p.m. and includes scones, sweets and savory sandwiches.

The historical society relies largely on volunteers to carry out its mission, and many individuals donate their time and expertise.

Jean Haut has been an active volunteer since 2000. Visitors can view her efforts when they tour the gardens where she has volunteered many hours. Haut recently took on a new project in the Octagon House Museum Gift Shop. With the assistance of her husband, Wayne, and volunteers Karen Langfeldt and Georgia Scheu, the gift shop is undergoing a makeover to prepare for the new season starting May 1.

The makeover involves remodeling and inventory expanded to include new decorative items for the home and garden, many in the $5 to $20 price range.

Hours are Wednesday-Saturday, noon to 4:30 p.m., and Sunday, 2 to 4:30 p.m.

Anyone interested in becoming a new volunteer is welcome to join the other volunteers at the tea. For reservations, call the Octagon House at (715) 386-2654.
