Sometime overnight on Sunday, North Hudson Elementary School on Lemon Street North was targeted by one or more vandals.

The vandals used colored chalk to write profanity, obscenities and hate speech at 15 different locations around the school, mostly on doors and windows. The damage was discovered by a North Hudson Police officer doing a building check around 3 a.m. on Monday.

After taking photographs of the damage and detailing what was found, police notified school authorities so that they could begin cleanup prior to students reporting for school on Monday morning. It took the school custodian more than four hours to remove the words from the building.

The police officer also found several cars in the area that had been hit by the vandals with similar damage.

Talk to the police

North Hudson Police Chief Mark Richert said despite the fact that no permanent or costly damage was done to the school, officers are aggressively investigating the case. They are talking with possible witnesses who may have information about who is responsible.

“We want to talk to the people involved as soon as we can. If you have a conscience and want to talk to an officer about what happened, I urge you to call or come in and talk to us as soon as possible. It would be best if the people involved came forward on their own. We will continue to investigate this and will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law,” said Richert.

Anyone with information on the incident can reach Richert at NHPD, (715) 386-8433.
