The St. Croix County Historical Society has announced that the Octagon House Museum will open for the season Thursday, May 1.

The eight-sided, fully furnished historic 1855 home, the Garden House Museum and Carriage House Gift Shop are located at 1004 Third St. Guided tours of the complex are offered, and walk-ins are welcome. Groups of 10 or more may make a reservation for any time by calling (715) 386-2654.

Regular tour hours are Wednesday-Saturday from noon to 4:30 p.m. and Sundays from 2 to 4:30 p.m.

This year’s theme is “Oh, those Innovative Victorians.” Each room of the Octagon House will highlight a different Victorian invention. Visitors may expect to see antiques and architecture; hear the story of the family who built the house in 1854 and lived there for 102 years; and learn how Victorian era innovations in communications, travel, work and leisure have shaped modern lives.

Tours last about an hour, and the cost is $7 for adults, $3 for students and $2 for children age 5-12. The historical society also offers memberships, which includes a free tour and a 10 percent discount in the gift shop. More information is available at www.presenter,com/~octagon.
