A visit from a black bear on Thursday, May 1, surprised residents of Red Cedar Canyon.
The good-sized bear was seen in the back yard of Marcine and Roger Edgars, 20 Eagle’s Nest Circle, in the early morning. Between 7 and 8 p.m. the same day, it was spotted in the back yard of Barb and Dale Danner, 40 Eagle’s Nest Circle.
Red Cedar Canyon resident Gordon Conard reported the sightings to the Star-Observer.
Conard said the bear had gotten into bird feeders in both of the back yards.
He said the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources was informed about the bear, and he was anticipating learning more about it from the department.
“We don’t know if the bear has taken up residence in the canyon or is moving through. Keep an eye out for the bear and hopefully, don’t surprise the animal,” Conard said in an e-mail warning to fellow Red Cedar Canyon residents.
The subdivision is between Stageline and Hanley roads on the city of Hudson’s southeast side. Eagle’s Nest Circle is off West Canyon Drive, about a quarter-mile south of Stageline.
