Members’ exhibit
All artists are encouraged to show their support for The Phipps by participating in the 25th Anniversary Members’ Art Exhibition, which will be on view June 6-July 6 in The Galleries. The submission deadline for all entry forms is Friday, May 23, by 4 p.m.
All members of The Phipps are invited to showcase one piece of original art in any media. Those wishing to participate, but who are not current members, are encouraged to join by making a donation when submitting their entry form. Entry forms and information on dropping off work can be found on The Phipps’ Web site, www.ThePhipps.org, by sending a self-addressed and stamped envelope to The Phipps, Attn: Members’ Exhibit, 109 Locust St., Hudson WI 54016, or by stopping by The Phipps.
“Girl Singers of the Hit Parade”
“Girl Singers of the Hit Parade,” a salute to the great female vocalists of the ’50s, returns to the main stage, after a sold-out run in the Black Box Theater during 2006. Selections include “Hey There” and “Come Ona My House” by Rosemary Clooney, “Tennessee Waltz” and “Old Cape Cod” by Patti Page, “Que Sera Sera” and “Secret Love” by Doris Day, “Where the Boys Are” and “Who’s Sorry Now” by Connie Francis, as well as “Is That All There Is?” and “Fever” by Peggy Lee, to name a few. “Girl Singers” runs June 20-22 on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., as well as Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $24 for adults and $17 for all students with a current ID. Private string lessons
Private violin, viola and cello lessons for students ages 7-adult are given year-round. Sarah Bertsch and Sarah Foster offer violin lessons. For more information, contact Bertsch at (715) 381-5735.
Dance parties
Tom Larson will offer dance parties Saturdays, June 21, July 19 and Aug. 16, 7:30-10 p.m., in the dance studio with a lesson from 7:30 to 8:30. Dancers of all experience levels are welcome. Admission is $10 per person.
Yoga classes
Vinyasa Flow yoga classes continue on Thursdays from 6:30–8 p.m. Beginning yoga is offered Tuesdays and Fridays from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Classes are ongoing and may be taken at any time. Punch cards may be purchased for $100 for 10 classes. The cards are good for any of the five classes offered each week. Students only pay for the classes they attend. Students should wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat.
Summer theater camps
Summer theater camps for students entering grades 3–10 are offered at The Phipps Center.
Summer Art Camp classes
The popular annual Summer Art Camp, with week-long classes offered June 16-Aug. 8, remains open for enrollment at The Phipps Center for the Arts. For a complete schedule, go to www.ThePhipps.org, call (715) 386-2305 or stop by The Phipps. Class sizes are limited and are beginning to fill, so early registration is encouraged. Class fees vary.
Photography
The Western Wisconsin Photographic Club meets regularly at The Phipps. For more information, call Paula Ptacek, (715) 425-9315, or Margaret Strehlo, (715) 386-5048. Photographers of all levels of ability and experience are invited to these meetings.
Healing arts at Hudson Hospital
Currently on display are the works of Fred Annes, Josh Blanc, Sandra Cress, Bonnie Cutts, Dawn Demaske, Catherine Hearding, Susan Phelps Pearson, Glenn Quist, Dean Rehpohl, Gregg Rochester, Bradley Royce, Marjorie Wade and Karen Wilscx.
The Galleries
The Galleries feature collaborative acrylic on vinyl paintings by Frank and Pamela Gaard, fantastic landscape paintings by Teresa Cox, sculptural ceramics by Susan Feigenbaum, photography by Ken Olson and recent pastel drawings by Sue Rowe. Also on view is an exhibition of work by adult art students of The Phipps. Galleries hours are Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Sunday, noon-4:30 p.m., as well as one hour before and through intermission of all performances in The Phipps theaters.
The Gift Gallery, Atrium Gallery
The Gift Gallery and Atrium Gallery offer unique fine art and traditional crafts by noted area artists. Gift certificates are also available.
