The Raider boys track team waited until near the end of the sectional meet to produce the highlight — a 1-2-3 finish in the 3200 meters.
Adam Zais won in 9:45.72, followed by John Roberts coming in at 9:45.79 and Neal Kivi at 9:53.61. Kivi easily bettered his previous best and pulled away late to beat a friend and rival from River Falls for the first time — and be the third Raider to earn a state berth in the event.
Also going to the state meet this weekend are: Brody Swenson in the high jump, who placed second with a 6-foot, 2-inch leap; Roberts in the 1600 meters, second in 4:27.61; and Mike Ludgatis in the discus, third with a 143 foot toss.
The team as a whole placed fourth in the sectional at Eau Claire North, which featured the other teams from the Big Rivers Conference, as well as 11 additional squads.
These are the other sectional placings from Hudson: Mitch Patrick, fourth in the pole vault (12.5 feet); Jenish Bhakta, fifth in the long jump (19.75 feet); Luke Wusterbarth, fifth in the 1600 meters (4:39.10); Julian McNally, sixth in the pole vault (12.5 feet); the team of Nick Lund, MacKenzie Lund, Nick Duchow and John Anderson, seventh in the four-by-200 relay (1:34.93); and Duchow, eighth in the 400 meters (1:12.96).
The state meet is Friday and Saturday in La Crosse.
