High gas prices might extend life of St. Paul Ford plant

High gas prices might have actually saved the Ford Ranger plant in St. Paul Minn., where a good number of Wisconsinites work.

The Detroit News says the nation’s No. 2 auto-maker is thinking about running the assembly line for the small Ranger pick-up two years longer than originally planned.

The St. Paul plant was supposed to close next year.

Ford is reportedly looking to keep its hand in the small pick-up market until it can bring in a different model.

There’s been no comment from Ford or union officials.

Minnesota’s top leaders have met with Ford officials to try and keep the St. Paul plant open. It employs more than 900 workers, including a share from western Wisconsin.
