Phipps Dance Co. holds auditions

Auditions for The Phipps Dance Company’s 2008-09 season are 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 10 and Wednesday, July 16, in the dance studio of The Phipps Center for the Arts, 109 Locust St. Registration begins at 5:30 each evening.

Auditions for this youth-performing ensemble are open to students ages 13 to 18 with a minimum of two years of dance training from any school. No preparation is necessary. Dancers should bring shoes for all styles of dance, including ballet, tap, jazz and pointe.

Company members do not need experience in all of these styles. All should come dressed to dance with their hair secured back.

Stephanie Campbell and Barb Zak will direct this performing group, which will produce a spring concert March 20 and 21, 2009, and perform in the community throughout the year.

Zak has been teaching at The Phipps for over 20 years and holds a bachelor’s degree in dance education. She has professional performing and directing experience.

Campbell has performed, choreographed and taught at The Phipps since 2004. She received a BFA in dance from UW–Stevens Point.

Requirements for company members are a one-year commitment which includes taking two Phipps dance technique classes per week along with rehearsals every Thursday and most Fridays from 4:30-6:30 p.m. starting Sept. 11. The cost is $125 for each of four eight-week sessions in addition to dance class fees.
