Dear Editor,
My family and I attended the Booster Days parade this year, just like we have since we moved to Hudson five years ago. When I think of a Fourth of July Parade, I think of the area bands competing and looking sharp, the area fire and police services showcasing their equipment and the pageant winners on their floats. It also brings to mind patriotic fanfare as well as local “dignitaries” vying for votes.
The reason I am writing is to question why this parade seems to be less about marching bands, fire trucks and creative floats. What I saw yesterday had some of the qualities I described but not enough.
If local businesses want to be highlighted, and I totally agree they should, then I think they should be held to a standard of judging. I saw several that were creative and/or sent their message in a creative way. Idaho Chuck’s with their band on a trailer, or Heart of David conveying their message using rappers.
Why do we need another flat bed tow truck or plain work truck with a couple of people squirting water and throwing the same Tootsie Rolls they all bought in bulk.
If businesses want to be a part of the parade, I feel they should have to spend a little time and energy creating something unique to look at.
