Dear Editor,
As a woman leader of the St. Croix Democratic Party, it disappoints me that Sheila Harsdorf’s attendance at John McCain’s town hall meeting on women’s issues is so inconsistent with her voting record on the most important issues facing women today.
McCain was in town to promote women’s issues, but Sheila has not been an advocate for women. Instead of standing up for women in the State Senate, Sheila chose to vote with the Republican leadership over 90 percent of the time, even when it meant voting against equal pay for women and against women’s access to health care and education.
So many of our working families are led by working women, and Sheila has put these families at risk by voting against efforts to ensure that all Wisconsin children have health care coverage and by refusing to ease the burden of the cost of higher education.
It is disappointing that Sheila doesn’t have the courage to stand up for women and working families. The women of western Wisconsin deserve an advocate in Madison — someone who will stand up for them no matter what their party leadership says.
