Community band marks 25 years

The St. Croix Valley Community Band is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Dr. Kristin Tjornehoj of Hudson, professor of music at UW-River Falls, has led the 70-plus member group since 1982.

The St. Croix Valley Community Band is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Dr. Kristin Tjornehoj of Hudson, professor of music at UW-River Falls, has led the 70-plus member group since 1982. Musicians range in age from 15 to nearly 80 and perform a wide variety of music, including symphonic band arrangements, marches, classical works, Dixieland, big band, musical theater and solo features.

Their concert schedule includes:

  • Saturday, July 19, 6 p.m., as part of The Phipps Center for the Arts’ 25th anniversary celebration in Lakefront Park, Hudson;

  • Tuesday, July 22, 7 p.m., Petersons’ Valley View Farm, 3148 150th Ave., Glenwood City;

  • Wednesday, July 23, 6:30 p.m., Heritage Hillside Series, 1100 Heritage Drive, New Richmond;

  • Thursday, July 24, 7 p.m., UW-RF Amphitheatre, River Falls; directions: turn south on S. Third St. and park in N lot, walk across the Kinni bridge; amphitheatre is on the left (behind Hathorn Hall off Cascade Street); rain site is North Hall;

    Featured soloists are Dr. Gary Bird of Spring Valley on tuba and vocalist Mary Maiden-Mueller of Luck. Guest conductors are Jim Root and Chris Tank of Hudson, Dr. Verle Ormsby of Amery and Spike Maiden-Mueller of Luck.
