About 30 guests of the Comfort Inn on Clairemont Avenue in Eau Claire were evacuated after a fire Sunday night.
Authorities are not sure what started the blaze at the Quality Inn. They said it was contained in the lobby area, but smoke moved down the halls to the guest rooms.
While the fire was out by 9 p.m., officials said the guests could not stay there due to the risk of carbon monoxide.
They were directed to other hotels. No one was hurt.
The blaze was reported at 7:40 p.m. Sunday. And while it took just an hour and 20 minutes to extinguish, firefighters stayed a couple more hours to keep flare-ups in check.
They returned to the scene today (Monday) to determine the cause. An early damage estimate exceeds $100,000.
