Public hearings begin today (Monday) on a plan to increase a host of state government licensing fees.
The Department of Health Services wants to a plug a $2.5 million deficit in its current budget, by boosting fees for state licenses ranging from body piercing to vending machines.
The extra money will pay for state inspections and other requirements involving those licenses.
The first public hearing starts late this morning at the state’s Western Regional Office in Eau Claire.
The second hearing is Tuesday in Rhinelander.
Others are planned later this week in Green Bay, Milwaukee, and Madison.
