Woman ‘critical’ after vehicle hit by St. Croix Co. squad car

STAR PRAIRIE — A woman was severely injured Thursday evening when a St. Croix County deputy responding to an emergency call lost control of his squad car and struck her vehicle.
According to a Regions Hospital spokeswoman, Carolyn Quenzer, 58, of Star Prairie is in critical condition this (Friday) morning. Sgt. Steve Tape of the Wisconsin State Patrol said her injuries are not considered “life threatening.”
The accident was reported at 5:43 p.m. Oct. 21. The squad car, driven by Deputy James Haefner, 36, of Hudson, was traveling west on County Road H in Star Prairie when it hit a car traveling north on Hwy. 65.
Quenzer was driving a 1993 Buick LeSabre. She was flown from the scene to Regions Hospital in St. Paul.
Haefner was taken by ground ambulance to Westfield Hospital in New Richmond where he was treated and released.
The accident is being investigated by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
