Free autism workshops offered

The Western Wisconsin Autism Advocacy & Consulting Center Inc. is presenting free monthly workshops to provide support for families, caregivers, educators and service providers of children with ASD. Some content may also be relevant to other special needs.

The Western Wisconsin Autism Advocacy & Consulting Center Inc., a non-profit organization developed to help provide support for those caring for children with autism spectrum disorders, is presenting free monthly workshops to provide support for families, caregivers, educators and service providers of children with ASD. Some content may also be relevant to other special needs.

The workshops are the fourth Monday of the month at Faith Community Church, 777 Carmichael Road. Childcare can be provided. Refreshments will be served.

  • Sept. 29, 6-8 p.m. — “State and County Services: The Road to Resources” is an informational workshop focusing on understanding state and county services and funding, eligibility, waiting lists and what’s available for individuals with disabilities. The presenters are Tim Markgraf and Debbie Willink of St. Croix County Youth Community Support Services.

  • Oct. 27, 6-8 p.m. — “The Basics of Behavioral Reinforcement” will focus on understanding how to encourage appropriate behaviors for children with autism spectrum disorders. Multiple practical strategies will be explored. The presenter is Katie Gleason, clinic supervisor with the Wisconsin Early Autism Project.

  • Nov. 24, 6-8 p.m. — “The ABCs of an IEP (Individual Education Plan)” will cover the special education process from referral to IEP development. The workshop will focus on how to function as equal members of an IEP team to best meet the needs of a child with an autism spectrum disorder. The presenter will be announced.
