Senior Outreach Studies begin in River Falls

Tours, theatrical performances, museum trips and morning coffee discussions with UW-River Falls professors mark the 22nd year of Senior Outreach Studies at the university. The events are open to St. Croix Valley residents.

Tours, theatrical performances, museum trips and morning coffee discussions with UW-River Falls professors mark the 22nd year of Senior Outreach Studies at the university. The events are open to St. Croix Valley residents.

Morning With A Professor

This series runs from 9-11 a.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 23-Oct. 28, in Room 129 of the Regional Development Institute, 782 Wild Rose Ave., on campus. Each session includes a presentation by a UW-RF staff member, coffee break and discussion forum. Cost is $34 for all six sessions. Sessions include:

  • Sept. 23, “The U.S. Economy and the Presidential Candidates’ Economic Policy,” with Glenn Potts.

  • Sept. 30, “Food Safety Trends: A Global Perspective,” with P.C. Vasavada.

  • Oct. 7, “Fraud by Trust Violators,” with Charles Ladd.

  • Oct. 14, “Risk Management, Balancing Threat and Opportunity on a College Campus,” with Connie Smith.

  • Oct. 21, “Afghanistan,” with Margaret Swanson.

  • Oct. 28, “Lions & Tigers & Bears, Oh My! Constellations through the Year,” with Eileen Korenic.

    Tours and day trips

  • Oct. 1, Museum of Russian Art, Minneapolis. This docent-led tour highlights Russian art from the 19th and 20th centuries plus the landscape paintings of Yakov Romas and the “Icons from Yaroslavl.” $36 fee includes bus from Plaza 94 lot at 9:45 a.m., returning by 3 p.m.

  • Oct. 29, “Church Basement Ladies 2: A Second Helping” at the Plymouth (Minn.) Playhouse. $69 includes lunch, coach and admission; bus leaves Plaza 94 lot at 9:45 a.m., returning by 4:30 p.m.

  • Nov. 12, American Swedish Institute, Minneapolis, guided tour with a holiday presentation of the historic house, museum and cultural center. $44 includes soup and sandwich luncheon, coach and admission; bus leaves Plaza 94 lot at 10:45 a.m., returning by 3 p.m.
