As of Tuesday afternoon, no one had returned a missing Hudson Police Department handgun, two badges and identification card to the safe in the vestibule of the North Hudson Village Hall.

The property belongs to HPD Detective Shawn Pettee and was taken from his unmarked squad car while it was parked at his residence in North Hudson last month. The theft took place sometime between Aug. 14 and Aug. 20 while Pettee was on vacation.

Last week the North Hudson Police Department, which is conducting the investigation into the theft, offered whoever took the items the opportunity to return them to the safe, no questions asked. The deadline for returning the property was 8 a.m. on Wednesday.

NHPD Chief Mark Richert said the offer was made in the interest of public safety. He also reported that no crimes had been reported involving the gun or badges.

Richert said that if all four items were not returned, the investigation will continue and anyone involved in the crime or disposal of the items will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

For more information, contact the NHPD at (715) 386-8433.
