Mixed Media and Acrylic Collage for new and returning students will be offered by Bonnie Cutts from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 6-8, at The Phipps Center for the Arts.
Students will use acrylic paints, gels and mediums to create several collage elements from which to work. Participants will learn the step-by-step process for making gel skins by working with prepared transparent acrylic skins made from gel and a photocopy image, and directly transferring images into wet acrylic materials. Working with gel skins (similar to decals) and other acrylic materials, students will create a self-portrait with whimsical touches. Participants will learn how to make stencils with tinted gels and molding pastes to create raised textural designs. Drawing materials and papers will be available as well. This workshop is open to students of all levels of painting experience.
Participants must bring to class three canvases or canvas boards 11x14 inches, favorite synthetic paintbrushes, a small towel, rags, a water container and a bag lunch each day. All other materials will be provided.
Cutts was trained by Golden Artist Colors for its working artist program. Since 1998 she has been offering technical information lectures and teaching workshops which stress a wide range of techniques using acrylic materials. Cutts exhibits her acrylic paintings at Opening Night Gallery in Minneapolis and has work included in numerous corporate and private collections across the country.
