Swimmers more than double-up on RF

The Raider swim team posted a 1-2-3 finish in the 50 freestyle and had two of the first three places in all but the initial relay to beat River Falls 118-49.

In the 50 freestyle, Catie Weese won in 31.12, Mackenzee Nicely was second in 32.24 and Megan Hanley third in 33.34.

These were the other eight first places: Noey Anderson, Melley Meyer, Chella Bhagyam and Weese in the 200 medley relay (2:22.63); Bhagyam in the 200 freestyle (2:25.04) and 100 freestyle (1:07.63); Shannon Grayes in the 400 freestyle (5:17.66); Weese, Ebonee Townsend, Ronni Schoenherr and Nicely in the 200 freestyle relay (2:11.96); Anderson in the 100 backstroke (1:17.34); Meyer in the 100 breaststroke (1:27.93); and Anderson, Nicely, Bhagyam and Meyer in the 400 freestyle relay (4:37.93).

Second places went to: Grayes in the 200 freestyle (2:33.83); Hannah Van Valkenburg in the 200 individual medley (3:06.23) and the 400 freestyle (5:40.98); Nicely in the 100 butterfly (1:17.29); Schoenherr in the 100 freestyle (1:14.92); Van Valkenburg, Melissa Annen, Amanda Baker and Erin Ploeger in the 200 freestyle relay (2:24.20); and Townsend, Grayes, Hanley and Schoenherr in the 400 freestyle relay (4:57.34).

Third places went to Annen in the 200 IM (3:18.29) and the breaststroke (1:37.11), and Townsend in the butterfly (1:22.27). Hudson had five 1-2 finishes, included a streak of four in a row.

Hudson also placed fourth of nine teams in the Husky Invitational at Eau Claire North. They scored 146 points, nine ahead of the host school. Apple Valley won with 256 points.

Highlights included Sarah Monette and Melissa Stagg, fourth and fifth in 1-meter diving with scores of 272.80 and 2:57.15, with Amanda Baker adding a sixth in 255.65 by a quarter-point, and Weese, fourth in the 50 freestyle with 26.90.

“This was also a good meet for us, even though we were short a couple of swimmers,” said Coach Dick Clark.

Hudson was scheduled to play host to Simley on Tuesday and Eau Claire North on Thursday.
