Violet (Olson) Showman, 98, of Hammond died on Monday, Oct. 6, at the American Heritage Care Center in Hammond.

Violet was born on Nov. 25, 1909, in Manitoba Junction, Minn., to Gust and Hannah (Anderson) Olson.
She married Emry Showman in Detroit Lakes, Minn. That marriage would be blessed with two children, Sandra and Clifton.
In 1963 Emry passed away.
Shortly after, Violet got a job working as an elevator operator for Buckbee-Mears. She worked this job until 1988, when she retired. After 40 years in St. Paul, Violet moved to Hammond to be closer to her family.
Violet was a talented gardener and tended to both vegetables and flowers. When she wasn’t gardening she also enjoyed crocheting. She was a hard-working woman who loved her family very much. She was able to be a big part of not only her children’s lives but also the lives of her grandchildren.
Violet will be missed by her friends and family. This includes her daughter, Sandra (Allen) Penfield of Baldwin; son, Clifton (Annetta) Showman of Java, S.D.; grandchildren, Jay (Christine) Penfield of Hudson, Jenna (Chris) Law of Hudson, Linnea (Bryce) Hepper of Java, S.D., Jeremiah Showman of Java, S.D., and Kurt (Karen) Showman of Maple Grove, Minn;
Great-grandchildren, Amanda and Sam Penfield, Kiersten and Ayden Stickney, and Kelly, Kory and Kristian Showman; sister, Myrtle (Malcolm) Frisk of Fargo, N.D., and many other friends and relatives.
Violet is preceded in death by her husband, Emry; her parents; two sisters, Linnea Way and Lilly Brinkman; and a brother, Helmer Olson.
Services for Violet were Friday, Oct. 10, at the Hawley Alliance Church in Hawley, Minn.
Burial followed immediately afterward at the Old Dale Covenant Church Cemetery near Hawley.
Services were in the care of the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson.
