DNR looking for a few good wolf counters

The state Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is looking for a few good wolf counters.

Volunteers will be trained in Ashland on Saturday, and in Babcock and Tomahawk in early December.

Adrian Wydeven, a DNR spokesman, says trackers will be assigned to forest areas in northern and central Wisconsin to gather information which helps biologists analyze the wolf population.

A federal judge recently put wolves back on the endangered species list. Up to 564 timber wolves were counted in Wisconsin last winter, and 127 volunteers helped come up with that number.
