Choral Christmas festival set

The Phipps Festival Chorus and The Phipps Oratorio Society will combine to present two holiday concerts on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. at The Phipps Center for the Arts.

A “Choral Christmas Festival” will include popular carols and songs of the season as well as several works from the oratorio genre appropriate to the season. The singers will perform with a variety of accompaniment including piano, organ and brass. Sue Christian is the piano accompanist for the concert and Monica Weekes will accompany a number of selections on the Wurlitzer theater pipe organ.

Some of the selections are “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” “Angel’s Carol” by John Rutter, “For Unto Us a Child is Born” and “Hallelujah” from Handel’s “Messiah,” “Happy Holiday,” “White Christmas,” “Alleluia” by Randall Thompson, “What Shall We Give to the Babe in the Manger” and two sing-a-long carols for audience and chorus, “The First Noel” and “O Come All Ye Faithful.”
