The Hudson School District has received more than $65,000 toward the cost of constructing the Gateway, the tunnel that connects the River Crest Elementary School campus with Camp St. Croix.
Gordon Boos of RiverBank in North Hudson was at the School Board meeting last week to present board President Dan Tjornehoj with the first half of a $5,000 donation toward the project. The cost of the tunnel was $238,000, half of which is being paid for by the YMCA of Greater St. Paul.
Superintendent Mary Bowen-Eggebraaten told the board that the district has also received $10,000 from the Phipps Foundation for the project. (The Phipps Foundation is a separate philanthropic organization, not to be confused with The Phipps Center for the Arts.)
The Andersen Corporate Foundation donated $25,000. Additional donations have been received in the following categories:
There have also been individual donations.
The money raised so far accounts for 55 percent of the district’s share. Bowen-Eggebraaten told the board that district Communications Specialist Tracy Habisch-Ahlin was responsible for much of the fund-raising and grant-writing in connection with the project. The fund-raising effort is ongoing.
