The Hudson Middle School seventh- and eighth-grade orchestras and bands present their winter concert tonight, Thursday, Dec. 4, at the Hudson High School Auditorium.
The Eighth Grade Orchestra will perform “American Heartland,” arranged by Larry Morre, and an arrangement of Aaron Copland’s “Hoedown” by Stephen Bulla. The group will also perform as a symphony orchestra with some of the Eighth Grade Band members playing an arrangement of Georges Bizet’s “Farandole” by Merle Issac. This will be the first time in at least 40 years that a Hudson School District orchestra program will be performing as a full symphony orchestra.
The Seventh Grade Orchestra will play Vince Guaraldi’s “Christmas Time is Here,” “Danny Boy” and “Themes from Vivaldi’s Gloria,” both arranged by Harry Alshin.
Directing the orchestras are Jack Young.
The Eighth Grade Band, directed by Carl Meincke, will perform Elmer Bernstein’s “The Great Escape Concert March,” arranged by Robert W. Smith; “Serengeti,” by John Higgins; and “Christmas Time with Charlie Brown,” arranged by John Moss.
The Seventh Grade 1, 3, 5 and 2, 4, 6 bands will combine to perform “Santa at the Symphony,” arranged by Mark Williams; “Extreme,” by Rob Grice; and “Holiday Festival,” arranged by Michael Story. Connie Root directs the seventh-grade bands.
