Season tickets on sale

The organ series features a holiday concert by Ron Reseigh; Jelani Eddington, the youngest-ever Organist of the Year; Dave Wickerham, organist in residence at the famed Milhous Museum in Boca Raton; and Ron Rhode, a favorite at American Theatre Organ Society conventions.

The special events series includes holiday concerts by The Phipps Festival Chorus and The Phipps Oratorio Society and “The Belle of Amherst” starring Linda Kelsey.

Season subscribers have the first opportunity to purchase tickets to special performances by the Barbary Coast Dixieland Show Band.

Patrons can subscribe to any or all of the series, or create their own series of events. A season package of five events for $80 offers up to 30 percent savings over individual ticket prices. A season subscription of three events for $54 offers over 20 percent savings. Subscribers are also offered free exchanges.

New Year’s Eve concerts

Colleen Raye and Company with the Minnesota Jazz Orchestra will perform family New Year’s Eve concerts on Wednesday, Dec. 31, at 5 and 7:30 p.m. Celebrating New Year’s Eve with Raye and her talented family has become a tradition at The Phipps. Raye’s theme for this New Year’s Eve is “Carnivale.” Opening with Peter Allen’s “I Go to Rio,” the pace is set for an evening of festive music and entertainment.

Private violin lessons

Private violin lessons for students ages 7 through adult are offered throughout the year by Sarah Bertsch, (715) 381-5735.

Private voice lessons

Elizabeth Hawksford Schaefer offers private voice lessons for ages 12-adult. Adults and homeschooled teenagers are especially welcome to call for available daytime openings. For more information, call The Phipps center at (715) 386-2305, ext. 101.

Dance parties

Tom Larson will offer ballroom dance parties Saturday, Dec. 20 and Jan. 17 and Feb. 21, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. in the dance studio. Larson will offer a ballroom dance lesson from 7:30 to 8:30. This is an opportunity to have fun trying out new dance skills in a relaxed and comfortable environment. Dancers of all experience levels are welcome. Refreshments are provided. Admission is $10 per person.

Yoga classes

Vinyasa Flow yoga classes continue Thursdays, 6:30–8 p.m. Beginning yoga is offered Tuesdays and Fridays, 9-10:30 a.m. Classes are ongoing and may be taken at any time. Punch-cards may be purchased for $120 per 10 classes. Punch-cards are good for any of the three classes offered each week. Students only pay for the classes they attend. Students should wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat.

Tai chi classes

Tai chi classes continue on Thursdays, Dec. 18–Feb. 19, with no classes Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. The fee for eight sessions is $96.

Gift clay class for adults, children

An adult and child hand-building with clay class in which participants will make holiday gifts is offered Saturday, Dec. 13, 10 a.m. to noon for adults and children ages 4 ½ and older to create gifts together. Adults and children will learn basic hand-building techniques using white clay and colorful underglazes. Cost is $37 per adult and child pair, $14 for an additional child.

Photography club

The Western Wisconsin Photographic Club meets regularly at The Phipps. Photographers of all levels of ability and experience are invited to these meetings. For more information, contact Margaret Strehlo, (715) 386-5048.

Healing Arts at Hudson Hospital

Currently on display is the work of Tai Allen, Martin Corbett, Curtis Dale, Calvin deRuyter, Ron Germundson, Christine Kapp, Mary Hanson, Lynn Middleton Koeller, Ginny Olson, Beth Peck, Sandi Pillsbury, David Spohn, Tara Sweeney and Kasey Westra.

The Galleries

A series of exhibitions featuring work by five area artists, a sculptural installation by Melanie VanHouten, contemporary basketry by Tressa Sularz, woodcut prints and collage by Mary Barrett, layered woven textiles by Marie Westerman and original photomontage prints by Karen Klein, are on view through Jan. 4 in The Galleries of The Phipps Center for the Arts. Galleries hours are Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; Sunday, noon-4:30 p.m., as well as one hour before and through intermission of all performances in The Phipps theaters.

Holiday sale

“A Gift by the Hand,” the annual holiday sale of handmade items by local and regional artists, runs through Dec. 31, in the Gift Gallery. Hours are Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Sunday, noon-3 p.m., and one hour before and through intermission of all performances in The Phipps theaters. The Phipps will be closed Dec. 24 and 25.

The Gift Gallery

The Gift Gallery offers unique fine art and traditional crafts by noted area artists. Gift certificates are also available.
