Environmental safety officials were at the town of Hudson for two straight nights with displays showing a scale-backed program for well monitoring systems.

Both the frequency of testing and the monitoring area have been cut back, as part of a program specific to contamination believed to have come from the Nor-Lake plant in the town.

Sixty filtering systems are being removed due to improvements in ground water quality tests, but “sentinel wells” will remain in those areas to continue checking numbers, the visiting officials said.

The overall program, implemented several years ago because of a large plume, will remain in force, they said.

In other action, the board:

  • Did site plan review and set a date for a special exception hearing for a baseball complex including four fields proposed by Ed Hendricks. The hearing is at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 29. Changes in zoning language that were suggested by St. Croix County — including those about concession stands, charitable non-profit organizations that are government approved, and inclusion of the word “federal” when such sites are adjacent to state and county roads — were added to the town’s amendment on the matter.

  • Announced that a hike in the mileage reimbursement rate for the town building inspector is no longer in force. The hike was given when gas prices soured to about $4, but was slated to be re-evaluated as prices go up or down. The matter was part of the contract renewal for inspector Brian Wert.

  • Heard a resident say that church service hours for youth could be utilized by the town; in a response to pointed comments at a previous meeting by supervisor Tim Foster about extra duties he provides to the town.
