Raye sings in new year
Colleen Raye and Company, with the Minnesota Jazz Orchestra, will perform family New Year’s Eve concerts at 5 and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, at The Phipps Center for the Arts. Celebrating New Year’s Eve with Raye and her family has become a tradition at The Phipps – this year’s theme is “Carnivale.” The show features Raye and family members Reed Grimm, Sophie Grimm and Debbie O’Keefe along with the Minnesota Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Craig Thrane with vocalist Greg Marquardt. Holiday sale continues
“A Gift by the Hand,” the annual holiday sale of handmade items by over 40 local and regional artists, runs through Dec. 31 in the Gift Gallery of The Phipps Center for the Arts. Shopping for your holiday gifts at The Phipps benefits the artists and supports the programming at the center. Shopping hours are Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.; Sunday, noon-3 p.m.; and one hour before and through intermission of all performances in The Phipps theaters.
Kelsey is ‘Belle’
Linda Kelsey will perform “The Belle of Amherst” Jan. 9-18 at The Phipps Center for the Arts, 109 Locust St. This one-woman play by William Luce celebrates the life of 19th century American poet Emily Dickinson. Performances are Jan. 9-18 on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $22 for adults and $15 for all students with a current I.D., with a $2 discount for seniors on the Sunday matinees. Six exhibits on view at Phipps
A series of exhibitions featuring work by six area artists — a sculptural installation by Melanie VanHouten, contemporary basketry by Tressa Sularz, woodcut prints and collage by Mary Barrett, layered woven textiles by Marie Westerman, mixed media paintings by Teita Ackerman Amberg, and original photomontage prints by Karen Klein — are on view through Jan. 4 in The Galleries of The Phipps Center for the Arts. Galleries hours are Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; Sunday, noon-4:30 p.m.; and one hour before and through intermission of all performances in The Phipps theaters. The Phipps is closed Dec. 24, 25 and Jan. 1.
Broadway actress at Space
Broadway actress Tari Kelly is performing at 8 p.m. Jan. 23 and 24 at The Space, a centre for creativity in New Richmond. The show, “Follow Your Heart,” chronicles Kelly’s story of becoming an entertainer. Her Broadway credits include “Showboat,” “The Boy from Oz” with Hugh Jackman and, most recently, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” More information is available at www.tarikelly.com. Tickets are $20.
