Somerset Fire and Rescue received a call around 5 a.m. Thursday, about a house fire at 618 232nd Ave. in the Township of Somerset. The home, owned by Eric and Christine Peterson, is located in the Grandview Estates, about five miles northwest of Somerset and just west of County Highway H.
Somerset Fire and Rescue Assistant Chief Jason Crotty said fire and emergency responders from Somerset, New Richmond, Osceola and the St. Joseph Township responded to the scene.
When responders arrived on scene the house was fully engulfed in flames. The blaze was declared under control about an hour after firefighters arrived.
Crotty said wind conditions made fighting the fire difficult and floating debris caused grass fires and spot fires in nearby trees.
Crotty said all six people in the house evacuated safely and are staying at a family member’s home nearby.
A crew from St. Croix Electric was summoned to disconnect power to the home.
Somerset Fire and Rescue cleared the residence around 10:30 a.m.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
