PROPOSED AMENDMENTS OF cHAPTER 253 - FLOODPLAIN ZONING

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the city of Hudson, Wisconsin Common Council will conduct a public hearing on Monday, January 19, 2009, 6:55 p.m., City Hall Council Chambers, 505 Third Street, Hudson, Wisconsin to invite public comment in regard to proposed amendments to the municipal code, Chapter 253, Floodplain Zoning. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has issued revised flood plain insurance rate maps (FIRMs) to be effective March 16, 2009 and in conjunction with adoption of the new maps the city proposes amendment to Chapter 253, Floodplain Zoning to bring it into conformance with the minimum floodplain zoning regulations as required by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. The amended code will provide:

- new flood insurance rate map references,

- provide for amended requirements for structures in a floodway and floodfringe areas,

- revise limitations of damage to or destruction of nonconforming uses,

- access to areas of buildings below the flood protection elevation,

- access to information on conducting substantial damage assessments,

- adds a definition of the North American Vertical Datum (NAVD) to mean the sea level datum, 1988 adjustment
