Wayne W. “Pork” Watson, 72, of Hudson passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Dec. 21.
He was born the son of Streeter and Rose (Podhola) Watson on Oct. 19, 1936, in Cornell. Wayne graduated from high school and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed in Japan during the Korean War.
On March 3, 1962, he was united in marriage to Shirley Lodahl in Stanley. They were blessed with five children, Jodi, Jill, Wendy, Pam and Wayne Jr.
Wayne owned the Standard station in Hudson for several years. For the last 14 years, he worked at Go Fresh in Minneapolis.
Wayne enjoyed times at their cabin on the Yellow River in Boyd; he liked to chop wood, fish and feed the deer. Cheering on the home teams, the Packers and Badgers, was a must for Wayne. He was an avid gardener of vegetables, berries and flowers, and he was a good baker — his bunny cookies at Christmas were a favorite! Wayne was a family man at heart who truly loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law, Jim Koss and Roger Anderson.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 46 years, Shirley “Squirrel”; four daughters, Jodi (Chet) Sachsenmaier, Jill (Scott) Link, Wendy (Terry) Stedtfeld and Pam (Dan) Dubiel; son, Wayne (Magdalena) Watson Jr.; 15 grandchildren, Andrew, Andy, Josh, Ryan, Kassidy, Bailey, Sam, Ben, Hilary, Taylor, Katie, Abbie, Emma, Wayne III and Julian; sisters, Jean Koss, Joan Anderson and Janice (Pat) Clark; brother, Bill (Linda) Watson; many extended family members and friends.
The funeral service was at 2 p.m., with a visitation for one hour prior, on Friday, Dec. 26, at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson.
