The St. Croix County Sheriff's department will focus on DWI infractions this weekend.

The St. Croix County Sheriff's department will focus on DWI infractions this weekend.

Captain Scott Knudson said a "Zero in Wisconsin" grant the department received from the federal government allows for stepped up patrol during critical times.

"We want the word out that we will have extra patrols out this weekend and we hope for a safe and uneventful beginning of the New Year," Knudson said.

An intensive effort to keep roads safe from Dec. 22 through Jan. 4 produced a significant number of violators in St. Croix County.

"We had 12 OWI arrests, 23 speeding citations, 28 seatbelt citations and 66 other citations such as operating after suspension, equipment and registration violations and unreasonable speed," Knudson said.
