After nine years of business in Hudson, Stonewood Furniture has made the decision to close the retail showroom this month.
“The decision was not made hastily,” said Jeanette and Mike Kunz, owners of the building, Stonewood Furniture and Stonewood Konstruction. “Although business had obviously been slower over the last two years due to the housing slump, there were additional factors.
“Approximately 80 percent of the business has been from the design aspect, which includes special orders. The carrying cost of the large amount of inventory in the 8,000-square-foot showroom can be difficult in these economic times.
“So when a solid new tenant approached us and wanted the space, we decided it made sense to welcome them and make new plans for the design aspect of the furniture business.”
The inventory in the showroom has been moving out quickly due to the large discounts. Saturday, Jan. 17 is the last day of the store closing sale. On Jan. 24 an auction is scheduled for the remainder of the furniture and fixtures.
Jeanette Kunz will continue to serve her design clients, other designers, and builders with a minimal space inside Terrazzo’s, next door to the closing showroom. The major special order lines will remain the same and with less overhead, Kunz said the prices will be competitive. For more information, call (715) 381-1200.
Mike Kunz will continue to serve his commercial and residential building clients through Stonewood Konstruction, a full-service general contracting business. For information regarding that business, call (715) 441-6377.
