Letter: Chinese is good language

I disagree with the opinion stated by Mr. Hornung in the Jan. 8 edition of the Star-Observer. I support the Hudson School Board’s decision to offer Mandarin Chinese language to students.

Dear Editor,

I disagree with the opinion stated by Mr. Hornung in the Jan. 8 edition of the Star-Observer. I support the Hudson School Board’s decision to offer Mandarin Chinese language to students.

This economic report from the federal government identifies that China is a major economic player in the world, www.opic.gov/pdf/02_DevelopmentReport.pdf.

Other G8 countries are offering this language in their curriculums; should the United States continue to fall behind other nations in entering the global market?

If Mandarin Chinese is difficult to learn, then why put the effort into trying (sarcasm)?
