Hudson mower racers find sponsor

R&T Racing founders Robert Sparbel and Tim Luell have announced a sponsorship deal with STA-BIL Fuel Stabilizer for the 2009 U.S. Lawn Mower Racing Association season.

R&T Racing founders Robert Sparbel and Tim Luell have announced a sponsorship deal with STA-BIL Fuel Stabilizer for the 2009 U.S. Lawn Mower Racing Association season.

Based in Hudson, R&T Racing is a professional lawn mower race team competing in the STA-BIL National Lawn Mower Racing Series and USLMRA local club events across the Midwest. R&T Racing team members also build nationally competitive custom racing mowers for fellow racers.

R&T Racing was founded in 2006 when longtime motor sports enthusiast Robert Sparbel was looking for a safe, affordable motor sport where he could use his knowledge of fabrication and his skills on the track. After seeing lawn mower races on television and doing much research, Sparbel joined the USLMRA.

Shortly after Sparbel completed building his first racing lawn mower he showed it to his brother-in-law Tim Luell, who immediately wanted one built for him too. The rest is lawn mower racing history as R&T Racing combined its technical knowledge and racing success to become serious competition on the track both on local and national levels.

R&T Racing is going into its fourth race season and have many top five finishes, several of them first-place wins. In 2008, they each achieved first in points in their respective classes in the state of Wisconsin.

The U.S. Lawn Mower Racing Association features riding lawn mowers racing in six classes at track speeds up to 60 mph with all cutting blades removed for safety. There is no purse money because racers compete for trophies, glory and bragging rights.

The STA-BIL series is sanctioned by the USLMRA, which has more than 500 members across the U.S.
