Letter: Israel only defending self

Dear Editor,

I continue to get more discouraged with some American people. I was discouraged by last week’s letter to the editor by Thomas R. Smith who seems to think Israel has taken a disproportionately military response against Hamas.

If someone continually threw rocks at your house for years, sometimes injuring people within that house and you continually asked them to stop and they didn’t, what would you do? Yes, turn the other cheek is a good practice but when one has to defend themselves after continued efforts against unreasonable people, what is one supposed to do? What if we would have done this against the British when we were fighting for our American independence or against Hitler?

Hamas, Hezbollah, Taliban and Al Qaeda do not care about you and me. They are from the dark ages trying to ploy their will, religion and importable doctrines on the rest of the world.

How will our country and our world survive if we continue to pander, baby and become soft ourselves in the light of the terrorists?

I am a strong supporter of Israel and want to see it continue to be a nation of democracy. Israel only wants to live in peace. They are not the provokers. They are only trying to defend their country and their people.

If we had some real reporting in this country that really did do investigation, all of us could be more informed. It seems that reporters are excessively biased now and only want to trash the right. Why weren’t they in Chicago investigating all of the corruption that was and still is taking place, instead of Wasilla, Alaska, trying to get dirt on Sarah Palin?

Every country and person has a right to defend itself. Israel has finally said, “Enough is enough.” I hope that our country will be able to do that before we have another 9/11.
