Letter: Too much pork in bill

Dear Editor,

Rep. Ron Kind recently explained his vote in support for HR 1, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

After explaining his reasons, he states near the end: “Finally, this package includes the accountability and transparency that was missing during the Bush administration.”

This is absolutely true except he left out the fact that during the week of Sept. 27 he voted for HR 1424, the $700 billion financial bailout. This bill authorized the secretary of the Treasury to spend the money with no accountability.

Did Kind overlook this lack of accountability? It seems to me that Kind is part of the Democrat/Republican complex and is as responsible as Bush for this oversight.

The new bill (HR 1) may have accountability, but it’s full of

pork. Did Kind overlook the pork in this bill? Also what happened

to President Barack Obama’s campaign promise to eliminate all the pork and earmarks in new legislation? Time is running out when everything can be blamed on President George W. Bush.
