A group that promotes former President Ronald Reagan’s legacy is not happy with Gov. Jim Doyle.

The Wisconsin Democrat was among 17 governors who refused to issue proclamations which declared last Friday as “Ronald Reagan Day.”

That would have been Reagan’s 98th birthday and it was the fifth such anniversary since Reagan’s death in 2004.

The Ronald Reagan Legacy Project of Washington said Doyle put “petty partisanship above patriotism.”

Project chairman Grover Norquist said Reagan was loved by the American people and citizens abroad, and ignoring his legacy of leadership ignores the strength and value of freedom and democracy.

One Republican governor was among those choosing not to his party’s former president. That was Mike Rounds of South Dakota.
