For Heidi Metro (pronounced Meetro), life is good. The young, new mother has found her niche in the healing world of touch, opening Massage and BodyWork at 1294 Hosford St.

The Waseca, Minn., native attended UW-La Crosse, where she met her husband, Mike. After earning her degree in philosophy, she spent a short time in the corporate world but decided something was missing.

“I wanted to combine health, wellness and super customer service,” said Metro. “And I wanted to be in a healing field.”

She graduated from St. Croix Center for the Healing Arts in Hudson, taking the comprehensive course in massage therapy.

“I started my business out of my home,” said Metro, “but the ball was rolling very quickly.” By Aug. 1, Metro had moved her business to 1294 Hosford St., Suite B, becoming the final tenant in the business condo that also holds Sol Luna Salon and Cara Bella Skin Care Studio.

Shortly after the business move, she gave birth to baby Noah and took a leave. When the new year arrived, she decided it was time to introduce Massage and BodyWork to Hudson at large.

Metro offers integrative massage, deep-tissue massage and aromatherapy. She offers 30-, 60- and 90-minute treatments and package rates as well. Metro uses an online scheduling service, which makes life a little easier for the small-business owner.

“I feel like the clients I work with each have a lesson that I am supposed to be learning from them,” said Metro. “You develop as you go. It takes someone who is confident and who is willing to learn.”

Metro said she doesn’t lack for clients so she is certain she is doing things right. “I want people to know that this is a team effort.”

“A certain type of person is drawn to this field,” said Metro, who works a lot with her eyes closed. “There is an emotional component and there is a big responsibility to this.”
