Women in the St. Croix Valley have a new fitness option beginning March 2: pole dancing. “Lady Katherine, women’s fitness with a touch of sass” is opening in Hudson.

“I took a pole fitness class with my daughter in Minneapolis in 2008. It was fun and a good workout,” said Katherine Fossler, owner of Lady Katherine, a pole dance and fitness studio which is set to open. “Business and fitness are my two passions. It is more about making a difference than making money.”

After taking her initial class, Fossler continued her training, recently returning from Las Vegas, where she earned certification to teach pole fitness at levels 1 to 4.

“After that initial class I took the inspirational parts and made it my own,” said Fossler. “Pole fitness tones and shapes your body as well as increases endurance and overall body strength.”

A focus group of 10 women offered Fossler insight on prospective business concepts.

“For the last 18 to 24 months I planned to make a career change,” said Fossler. “I wanted to own my own business again. I wanted it to be fresh, unique, and I wanted to work with women.”

“The core values you have for yourself should be the core values of your business,” said Fossler, who graduated from the College of St. Catherine with a degree in business. She has owned her own sales and marketing business, directed a child care center and worked in administration of a surgical company. She has also taught aerobics and did professional modeling in the 1980s. Fossler and her husband, Terry, moved to Hudson nearly two years ago from St. Paul.

“Pole fitness is for every size, shape and fitness level,” said Fossler. “That’s what I love about it. Everybody can do this. It is designed for women. It builds confidence, self assurance and offers the integration of the mind-body essence.”

The studio was built by Zephyr Construction, owned by Fossler’s husband. It features 15 poles and mirrored walls on two sides, room enough to accommodate up to 14 students in pole dance and fitness classes, 20 students in the signature class Fossler offers.

“The mirrors help students see if they have proper alignment, and the lighting will be dimmed during class so students can relax more,” said Fossler. “It is a fun way to get fit, build relationships with other women and connect with their inner beauty, their feminine essence.”

In addition to classes, Lady Katherine offers pole dancing parties for private groups such as bridal showers, birthdays, a girls night out and corporate team-building events.

Open house

Lady Katherine is located at 1920 Crest View Drive, tucked in the back of South Side Center near Sweet Butter Cakery.

Fossler is holding a grand opening this Saturday, Feb. 14 from 1 to 5 p.m. Registration opens at 1 p.m. to sign up for classes. Refreshments and class demonstrations will be provided. It is also the only opportunity for men to visit the studio.

Other information

Fossler will also be selling yoga wear, logo T-shirts and platform dance shoes. She plans to offer women’s workshops in the future on an assortment of topics to enhance women’s self-esteem and confidence.
