Pottery classes resume at Phipps
Pottery classes for teens and adults (eight weeks) and for children (six weeks) begin the week of March 23 and are now open for enrollment at The Phipps Center for the Arts. Class size is limited to eight.
Pottery classes for teens and adults (eight weeks) and for children (six weeks) begin the week of March 23 and are now open for enrollment at The Phipps Center for the Arts. Class size is limited to eight.
Beginning Pottery on the Wheel runs from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Mondays, March 23-May 11, with instructor Dick Morse. Participants will learn basic techniques for throwing pots on the wheel.
Clay Sculpture and Raku Firing runs from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, March 24-May 12, with instructor Joel Thorson. Students will learn slab construction, the use of armatures, how the pottery wheel can be used for sculpture as well as pottery, plus participate in a raku firing.
Beginning/Intermediate Pottery on the Wheel is for people of all skill levels. It runs from 10 a.m.-noon Wednesdays, March 25-May 13, with instructor Marjorie Wade.
Clay Class for Kids, for ages 7 to 12, is offered from 4:30-6 p.m. Tuesdays, March 24-April 28, with Joel Thorson. Students will learn the basic techniques of throwing pottery on the wheel along with the sculptural techniques of pinching, coiling and slab construction.
Open studio: Teens and adults enrolled in these classes may use the pottery studio Fridays from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon (no instruction will be given). Students should wear old clothes, bring an old hand-towel, a sketchbook-type journal, and a basic tool kit (available for $15 the first day of class). The class fee includes one 25-pound bag of clay, glazes and firing; additional clay is $15.

The fee for the adult and teen classes is $207 and for the children’s class, $113.
