A western Wisconsin man faces a drunken-driving charge after his vehicle hit a guardrail and flew over the Trempealeau River before striking an embankment.

It happened early Saturday near Whitehall on Highway 121 in the Trempealeau County town of Lincoln.

Joshua Nickel, 28, of Blair was treated at a hospital before being arrested and cited for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Officials were not sure how far the vehicle flew across a narrow stretch of the river.

They said Nickel flagged down a passing officer and got treatment.
