Swans survive a sometimes perilous winter

I wonder in amazement that I can, within five minutes of my office, literally stand alongside and be among nearly 100 of the largest waterfowl birds in North America, the Trumpeter Swan.

It is that time a year again, the end of February and spring break, when life slows down in the newspaper business. It is also the time of year when I usually make my annual visit to the lakefront.

I wonder in amazement that I can, within five minutes of my office, literally stand alongside and be among nearly 100 of the largest waterfowl birds in North America, the Trumpeter Swan.
