Traffic patrols stepped up for St. Pat's Day
St. Croix County Sheriff's Department will step up its traffic safety enforcement to include a period of time surrounding St. Patrick's Day.
St. Croix County Sheriff's Department will step up its traffic safety enforcement to include a period of time surrounding St. Patrick's Day.
Patrol Captain Scott Knutson said the intensified traffic patrol effort March 13-20 is designed to combat drunken driving and increase seat belt use.
"Our intensified traffic safety enforcement during St. Patrick's Day and throughout the year will help save lives and reduce serious injuries from crashes," Knutson said. "Our goal is to increase voluntary compliance with traffic safety law, not to write more tickets. We are serious about traffic safety because far too many lives are destroyed because of drunken driving and failure to use safety belts."
The increased enforcement is part of a $15,000 grant to the sheriff's department from the Wisconsin Department of transportation.
