Willow River Elementary student Andrew Brooks was one of five children statewide to win a first-place award in a contest sponsored by VSA Arts of Wisconsin.
A jury of art professionals reviewed the nearly 250 submissions by children and adult artists with disabilities and selected five adult and five child winners, as well as five honorable mentions and three recognition awards. Brooks will receive a $100 art supplies gift certificate.
The winner’s artwork will be added to VSA’s Traveling Children and Adult Art Exhibits, which are displayed year-round at corporations, libraries, museums and galleries throughout the state. Artwork stays in the traveling exhibit for three years and is then retired as five new pieces are added.
Artists whose work was selected will be honored at a March 21 ceremony at WPS Health Insurance Nordby Building in Madison.
