Letter: Appreciates military

Dear Editor,

I was happy to see an article in both the Feb. 26 and March 5 Star-Observer about those locally who serve in our Armed Forces. I know that there are a lot of families in the community who have service members who will not be home for long periods of time due to training or deployment, and missing many of their family occasions while serving.

At Hudson High School, there is a display case known as the “Window of Honor” showing those who are in training, deployed in the Armed Forces, as well of those who have died in service to and for our country.

We are asking those families or friends who have an HHS graduate to help us to identify those who are currently serving or in training, including the military academies and ROTC programs.

If you would send/mail in a picture to the HHS office, we will put it in the case to show those who serve. Please put their name, year of HHS graduation, service affiliation, rank and where they are stationed.

For it is these brave men and women “who, at one point in their lives wrote a blank check made payable to ‘the United States of America’ for an amount of ‘up to and including my life.’ That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it —Author unknown.

Help us to identify those graduates who do this honor each and every day for all of us. When you are in the high school building, be sure to stop to see the display case by the auditorium. We owe them much more, but a simple “thank you” can be enough.

If you would like to do more, the Star-Observer has a link (Support Our Troops) on its Web site – www.hudsonstarobserver.com – to help support our military members of all branches in the Armed Forces.
