Hudson will be the scene Saturday (March 28) for the regional Destination Imagination competition at the middle school and Hudson Prairie Elementary.
The St. Croix Valley Regional DI Performance Day is open to the public and runs from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. More than 65 teams made up of some 500 students are expected to compete with the help of more than 120 volunteers. An awards and recognition ceremony will follow the performances. Most performances are eight minutes long.
Destination Imagination is an international program that encourages kids to cultivate creativity and teamwork as well as communication and leadership skills. Adults volunteer as team managers and work to help all kids in their group feel respected, inspired and able to recognize and share their unique skills and talents.
Hudson students have a long and successful association with DI, regularly sending teams of all ages to compete at the state and world level. At last year’s international competition, a Hudson High School team took top honors. Students work for four to five months in small groups researching, planning and creating a play that incorporates what they have learned, with no outside assistance from adults. For more information about Saturday’s contest, or to volunteer, contact Liz at (715) 377-9940.
