The week before, Meissen placed second at the Chicago Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K in Chicago. Meissen is running several races in preparation for the Boston Marathon later this month.

In Rockford last weekend, Meissen received his first place award, which was one of a number of awards for the event that were created by the Harlem High School art class in Machesney Park, Ill. The supervising teacher for the class is his distant cousin, Ruth Meissen, who was selected as the Illinois State Teacher of the Year in 2008.
