‘Joseph’ auditions April 26
Auditions for “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, are Sunday, April 26, at 7 p.m. for adults. Callbacks will be held on Tuesday, April 28 at 7 p.m.
Director Beth Reidenbach is looking for a large cast of adults of all ages. All roles include singing and dancing, so all auditioning will be asked to learn a dance routine and sing. Actors may bring 16 measures of a prepared song. An acompanist will be provided. A familiar song will be taught during auditions for those who do not bring their own music. Those auditioning should wear comfortable clothes and shoes to allow for maximum movement. Sign-in will begin 20-minutes prior to the auditions, which will be performed in small groups. Rehearsals will begin the week of May 10. Twelve performances run July 10-Aug. 2 on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. on the main stage.
Private violin lessons
Private violin lessons for students ages 7-adult are offered throughout the year by Sarah Bertsch, (715) 381-5735.
Private voice lessons
Elizabeth Hawksford Schaefer offers private voice lessons for ages 12-adult. Adults and homeschooled teenagers are especially welcome to call for available daytime openings. For more information, call The Phipps center at (715) 386-2305, ext. 101.
Ballroom dance parties
Tom Larson will offer ballroom dance parties Saturday, May 16 and June 20, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. in the dance studio. Larson will offer a ballroom dance lesson from 7:30 to 8:30. Dancers of all experience levels are welcome. Refreshments are provided. Admission is $10 per person.
Yoga classes
Vinyasa Flow yoga classes continue Thursdays, 6:30–8 p.m. Beginning yoga is offered Tuesdays and Fridays, 9-10:30 a.m. Classes are ongoing and may be taken at any time. Punch-cards may be purchased for $120 per 10 classes. Punch-cards are good for any of the three classes offered each week. Students only pay for the classes they attend. Students should wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat.
Tai chi continues
Tai chi classes continue Thursdays, April 23-June 11, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., eight sessions for $96.
Photography club
The Western Wisconsin Photographic Club meets regularly at The Phipps. Photographers of all levels of ability and experience are invited to these meetings. For more information, contact Margaret Strehlo, (715) 386-5048.
Mosaic classes
Local mosaic artist Wouterina “Riana” de Raad is offering a Mosaic Workshop ($145) on Saturday and Sunday, April 25 and 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Students will learn how to cut and break glass and ceramic tile, grouting and more.
Healing Arts at Hudson Hospital
Currently on display are the works of Teita Amberg, Chuck Avery, Robyn Stoller Awend, Bernel Bayliss, Barbara Bend, Patricia Lange, Andrea Larson, Susan McDonald, Tom McGregor, Chris Meyer, Gregg Rochester and David Sebberson.
Gallery exhibit
The annual Area High School Art Exhibition runs through April 26. The reception is April 26 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. with a program at 2. Galleries hours are Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; Sunday, noon-4:30 p.m., as well as one hour before and through intermission of all performances in The Phipps theaters.
The Gift Gallery
The Gift Gallery offers unique fine art and traditional crafts by noted area artists. Gift certificates are also available. On Friday-Sunday, May 1-3, members will receive 20 percent off all purchases in the Gift Gallery. All new work will be for sale that weekend from over 30 artists from throughout western Wisconsin and eastern Minnesota. Artwork includes pottery, turned wood, jewelry, photography, painting, books, purses, scarves, sculpture, and more.
