Repairs to Carmichael Road south of Interstate 94 are scheduled to begin Monday, May 11.
Motorists and businesses can expect lane closings and traffic delays along the stretch from Coulee Road to near the vacant St. Croix Meadows dog track through the end of July, according to the city’s consulting engineering firm.
Engineer Charles Schwartz of Bonestroo said the outside northbound and southbound lanes will be closed for three to four weeks, starting Monday, as sections of curb and gutter are removed and replaced.
Later, the contractor will close the middle lanes to repair curbing along the median, Schwartz said in a news release.
The road’s existing asphalt surface is scheduled to be removed in late June and the new asphalt will be laid in mid-July, according to the news release.
Much of the milling of the existing road surface north of Hanley Road will occur during the night to facilitate traffic flow, Schwartz said.
There won’t be any night work done south of Hanley Road because of Carmichael’s proximity to residences in that area.
Carmichael Road will remain open to traffic throughout the construction project. Traffic may be detoured around intersections for short periods of time, however.
Schwartz is encouraging motorists and businesses to use alternate routes “to expedite construction and help assure a safe construction zone.”
People with questions about the road project are advised to call Deb Andrews of the city’s Public Works and Parks Department. The department’s phone number is (715) 386-4767.
